Maryland July Job Update

As businesses have reopened and the economy has started to rebound, Maryland has seen a drastic increase in job postings.

Recent Update

Over the past six months, the Maryland Workforce Exchange (MWE) has averaged about 218,000 online job postings each month, collected from a variety of online sources including the BLS. This is the second highest average job postings since the MWE began tracking in 2008. There were over 250,000 job postings in July, which is the most job postings of any month in the past 5 years. With unemployment still at 6.0%, the state still has a steep climb ahead and is facing an unpredictable drop in workforce participation, according to a report released last week by the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.

July Job Updates

According to the Maryland Department of Labor, The Education and Health Services sector experienced the most growth with an increase of 3,500 jobs from the Educational Services (2,800) and Health Care and Social Assistance (700) subsectors. The Leisure and Hospitality sector increased by 1,400 jobs from the Accommodation and Food Services (1,300) and Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation (100) subsectors. Other sectors that experienced growth were Information (600); Other Services (600); and Financial Activities (500). “With over 250,000 job postings available during the month of July alone, the Maryland Workforce Exchange is a powerful employment tool that can not only connect Maryland’s claimants with jobs, but meaningful careers” said secretary Robinson at the DLS.
